About paybygrade

paybygrade shows what military members, veterans and federal employees are paid, line by line: basic pay by grade and years of service, VA disability compensation by rating, and the General Schedule with locality pay.

Who it is for

Service members, veterans, federal employees, their families, and anyone planning a career or a move. The site is written for adults. It is not a government site and is not connected to any branch of the armed forces or any agency.

Where the numbers come from

Only from official public documents that anyone can read: the President's pay order published in the Federal Register, OPM's salary tables and VA's rate tables. Every table shows its source and the date we last checked it. Figures for next year are marked “projected” or “estimate” until the official numbers are published. The sources page lists every document we use.
